AET Labs had the pleasure of co-sponsoring the “How to 3D Print” meetup hosted at the UML Innovation Hub on Thursday, January 26th. Shuvom Ghose of GrabCAD shared an insightful presentation to a crowd of enthusiastic students, teachers, and community innovators looking to get their 3D printing questions answered. Ghose gave valuable insight on preparing 3D files for print, covering printing guidelines for (1) Strength, (2) Speed, and (3) Efficiency. Using 3D models and lively crowd participation, Ghose effectively illustrated the concepts of setting wall thickness, tolerances, & overlaps to prepare CAD models specific to 3D printing. The meet up was also a great opportunity to learn how printing models directly from CAD using GrabCAD Print can help save time and remove obstacles that typically get in the way of work flow.
Attendees were given a tour the Lowell incubator for innovation and tech startups, which includes a shared workspace, a prototyping/fabrication laboratory including an Epilog Laser Cutting Machine, and two Stratasys 3D printers as well as spacious conference area. During the tour, a demonstration of their Stratasys uPrint was given, using the CAD file featured in Ghose’s presentation.
